A good denture care programme is important.  Full dentures should be taken out after each meal and rinsed and cleaned properly and thoroughly at least once a day. It’s important when removing full dentures to ensure they are held carefully and not dropped, as they can easily break, especially if they are removed whilst you are standing on a hard floor or in a ceramic sink. For this reason it is always advisable to fill the sink with water so should you drop your denture the water will cushion the fall and prevent the dentures from breaking.

With partial dentures, removing them correctly is very important as they are often hooked around standing teeth.  Incorrect removal can cause fracture of the denture or clasps and could even damage your natural teeth.  It is essential that they are gently eased so that no damage is caused.

With practice it becomes second nature and the fear of damage or breakage will be minimal. Additionally when removing a partial denture to clean them the same care must be taken to fill the sink again with water so if you do drop them the water will prevent them from becoming damaged.
